| Here are some old photos I found and scanned. These were taken in the summer of 1969. I decided to post these
for use by anyone restoring a 69 Chevelle Malibu Sport Coupe. I ordered
and purchased the Chevelle from Joe Ed Hawkins Chevrolet in Hot Springs,
Arkansas. Really thought hard about a SS396, but initial price, insurance
costs for a 18 year old, and Dad (of course) convinced me to go the small
block route. Plus, I was a small block fan anyway.
I ordered the 300 HP version of the 350 with the TH350 automatic. Got all the options to make it what a teenager would feel good about....plus some. Color combo was Le Mans blue with a white vinyl top. Interior was Parchment color with bucket seats, console and AM/FM/8 track. It also had power steering, power brakes and air conditioning. Of course I had to make a few changes to make the car "mine". The first thing to go were the stock wheels and small dog dish hubcaps. Those are Keystone wheels in the photos. I also grabbed an SS emblem from a Camaro and replaced the blue bowtie emblem in the center of the grille. Never understood why Chevy didn't make an SS350 Chevelle in 69. Must have been a marketing thing. And...yes...the emblem is upside down in the photos! Took me a while to notice. The car ran strong and served me well until the summer of 70, when I traded it for a (paid for) 64 Chevelle. The car had a short life, though. The new owner's home burned to the ground with the Malibu in the garage. |
