The Big Block Engine Swap

November of 2003

First is a shot of the big block on the stand and waiting for it's new home. October 17th.

 

Next is my elky pulled in the shop waiting for the transplant. October 17th.

 

Here's a shot of the engine bay with the old small block. October 17th.

 

Now the hood is off and disassembly has started. October 17th.

 

A while later with a few items out of the way. October 17th.

 

It's out and what a mess! Some serious cleaning and detailing is in order here. October 17th.

 

After cleaning and painting the engine bay, it's in! And....it runs!! Just got to get all the accessories back on now. November 8th.

 

Complete.....almost. Are they ever really finished? November 15th.

  • 454 block with casting date of August 23, 1973 bored .60 over

  • Stock crank

  • Sealed Power H581CP pistons with .300 dome height

  • 336781 heads with standard 2.06/1.72 size valves

  • GM guide plates and Comp Cams pushrods

  • Summit 1.7 ratio, 7/16" stud stamped steel rockers

  • NOS Crane Fireball II 302H cam and lifter set (now called Powermax H-302)

  • 302 Adv Duration....112 Lobe Separation.....544 Lift

  • Power+Plus aluminum intake

  • Holley Street Avenger 770 cfm carb (3310 in photos above)

  • Stock distributor with Crane XR-i conversion module
